In a Planner World

I've taken my first steps into a bigger world. I'm now part of a planner group on Facebook. I joined the Llamas Love Lettering Group, which is a group that focuses on planner stuff and lettering all encouraged by Cindy Guentert-Baldo.

I've been watching her on Youtube a lot and she's one of my favorite planner people to watch as she's funny and more importantly, her brain seems to work in a similar way as mine when it comes to planning and such. She also does a lot of creative projects that I can get into myself along with art supply reviews. I'm not sure how much I'll be joining along with comments and such but I've started and we'll see how far I go into the planner rabbit hole.

This is late but I'm posting this on time so I'm getting better with keeping up again! Go me!

Challenging more

I was doing so well for a long while with posting regularly and on time but then I just fell off the bandwagon. This posting has been a good indicator of how far along or how far behind I feel with my general goals. If things are on time, I'm right on schedule with this little blog of mine but if I feel like I'm falling behind, the timing gets all screwy. Obviously, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything that's been happening.

For the past several weeks, I've been on overdrive with trying to get everything done. My daughter finished school last month and now we're just waiting to get information about her new school since we decided to switch her out of public school and into a charter school. It's been interesting trying to parent a preteen with the trappings of modern life. My house is a mess and I'm still dealing with insurance trying to get everything ready so that things might finally progress along. The weather has been up and down with thunderstorms every 4 days and just recently there was a heat wave, which made working in a warehouse so much fun. At this point, I don't think I know any other speed besides ludicrous speed. I honestly can't believe that it's already July. The year is halfway through and I feel like I've barely got anything done.

Of course, it's not enough and I have to add another thing to my to do list. I've been learning lettering and focusing on brush lettering and calligraphy. Luckily, that was indeed one of my things to learn this year so I'm ahead on that, slightly. To keep practicing, I decided to start up a challenge for the month of July. It's a lettering/journaling/doodling challenge on the topic of Harry Potter. Of course, I'm focusing on lettering this challenge. It's been fun so far. I'm hoping it'll be another thing that I can say that I completed this year.

I'm a geeky girl!

So the last several posts I have done have all been about how I have so little to do and so much time . . .strike that, reverse that, thank you for your time. I've also gone at least 2 weeks before remembering to post something. Lucky for me, that it's only 2 days late and even better that I have something, what I hope to be, more interesting, or at the very least to be more amusing, to converse about.

I'm not your typical female. I don't just fall for a pretty face. I'll admire the artwork but I'll withhold judgement on whether more is warranted or not. Traits that are much more important to me, and in no particular order, are kindness, empathy, intelligence, curiosity, a good sense of humor, loyalty. I'm more likely to find the person sitting in the corner alone and try to engage them into conversation than to immediately sit in the center of a room to demand attention of the person who already has so much of it. With that being stated, it shouldn't come to a surprise that I don't develop crushes on the typical celebrities that most people admire after. My first celebrity crush was Brendan Frazer and for the longest time I have held a candle in my heart for Johnny Rzeznik. I will always hold a tender for them.

My current main crush is Thorin Oakenshield, specifically Richard Armitage as Thorin but my crush is not necessarily on Richard Armitage but his portrayal of Thorin. The character of Thorin Oakenshield is strength. He is a leader, specifically king, to his people and puts their well-being above his own desires, which in turn means he has honor and loyalty. He's not perfect and that actually makes me fall for his character more. He has pride but will admit when he is wrong. He broods but that means he feels things deeper than he lets on. He is stubborn but will do what is necessary.

On a physical level, he is a man. Thorin Oakenshield is a warrior, a blacksmith. He is fur and leather with strong arms, hands and body. This is how Thorin looks in my head. Pardon me, while I swoon for a second.

What seals the deal for me, is that with Richard Armitage as Thorin, that voice sends shivers down my spine in the best of ways and when his eyes look at you, you feel like you would melt in the best of ways.

I think I may go watch the Hobbit now!  lol

Geek On!

So I'm a geek. I feel I've been very clear on that point and I don't have just one geekdom, but in fact, I have several. I read, I adore certain tv series and I play video games so there's quite a lot that I can spout about. Recently, I went to the Great Philly Comic Con and it was glorious! I was an adoring fan as I took in all the merchandise around me and a gawking idiot to the celebrities that came to share their work there. I got my picture with Jewel Staite and Alan Tudyk. I got my picture with David Ankrum. I have no words on how much this mean to me. That is all. I can't wait til next year!

Carrie On

December was disheartening for me this year and January is no longer a good month for me. I'm doing my best to rally my spirit for the beginning of this 2017 but so far my efforts aren't doing too well. Hopefully, I'll be on the mend soon enough with a little more time.

To start with things, I've been dealing with this for a while now and to be honest, it still makes me sad. Carrie Fisher was called back to another galaxy on Dec. 27, 2016. For me, on that day, that was the day that music died.

She represented so many things to me. Of course, she was Princess Leia. She wasn't just a girl waiting around to be rescued. She was intelligent, ambitious, stubborn and fought for what she felt was right. She was one of the youngest members of the Imperial Senate and one of the leaders of the Rebel Alliance, fighting to free the galaxy from the evil empire. She was captured but refused to give in and even when she lost everything, she didn't lose hope. She kept on going and kept fighting. She showed me that girls are tough, that we can do the rescuing ourselves and that we girls rule the galaxy. In real life, Carrie Fisher was a writer. She was on Broadway. She was a mental health advocate. She embodied so much of how I grew up and now she's gone but she won't ever be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, Carrie Fisher. You will be missed.

Soon to be Happy Hobbit birthday to me!

I mentioned briefly that I'm throwing myself a Hobbit birthday party. I'm adult so why would I need a themed birthday party. The answer is that I don't need one. I simply want to. It'll be fun. No great adventure started out with, "We don't need to do that," and sticking to it. I'm quite excited!

Star Wars, once more!

Star Wars, as for many, was the first intro I got into the world of Sci-Fi and fantasy and from that moment then on I was hooked. I used to have the original trilogy almost completely memorized. It used to be that you give me a line and I could tell you who said it, which movie, what was happening in scene and what the next line would be. I could hear that iconic opening music and my butt would be planted in front of whatever screen was playing it for the entire time.

My love of Star Wars has never ended and as I grew I found the comics and books. My passion never waivered from the Expanded Universe. I read everything I could get my hands on. I even bought and played the card game when it came out.

When the Prequels came out at the time when I was in high school, of course I was excited as a Star Wars fan girl. Sadly, as the next two movies played out, I became disillusioned with how the storylines were portrayed. The directing was less than stellar and some of the actors weren't he best fit. It was disappointing but I still happy to have more official plot lines in the Star Wars universe and just just speculation.

The latest gossip is, of course, the newest trailer for Star Wars The Force Awakens. The first trailer was left entirely to speculation and skeptics. I withheld judgement. I'm unsure how much of the principal photography was done or of how much principal editing was done for the movie at that time, but it was obvious, not enough was ready excpet for a trailer to show off a few of the CGI & FXs that had been done. This second trailer, most definitely revealed a whole lot more with a revealing of actual storyline and welcome view of beloved storylines.

It's exciting, yes, but I still withhold judgement though. Once again, there's nothing but speculation and I'm unwilling to once again fall into that temptation. I am weary of where the story and character lines might trail to. I can't help wanting the Expanded Universe, most especially The Dark Empire trilogy of Timothy Zahn's novels. The plot lines from those novels were an amazing jump start to see how the Rebellion would grow into the Republic of the Galaxy. As I said though, I'm on the fence of things and for now, that's where I'll sit til the actual release but of course, you know where I'll be this Christmas.

Geek fun!

I'm a geek and a nerd. I play video games, board games to tabletop role playing. I adore sci-fi and fantasy. I have read my fair share of comic books too and watched enough anime to go around the block once or twice. I live my life with the betterment of chemistry and obsess over the skies above us. I can just as happily discuss classic literature with comparisons to modern culture. I'm proud of all of those things that I do.

Last weekend I went to an anime convention.  https://zenkaikon.com/
Unfortunately, we didn't get to spend nearly as much time there as I would have liked but it was still enjoyable.

To share, here are 2 pics I was able to catch.
